Medan. The State University Cooperation Agency (BKS-PTN) of the Western Indonesia Region stated its support for the establishment of the Lake Toba Resort International State University or UNDT RI which was initiated by the Lake Toba Community Committee (KMDT).
"We support and pray that the KMDT initiative to fight for the establishment of the Lake Toba Resort International State University can be realized soon," said the Head of the Western Region BKS-PTN Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, M.Si on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the Western Region BKS-PTN, in the Samosir tourist area, North Sumatra, Wednesday (4/9).
The 2024 Western BKS-PTN Meeting was attended by 32 rectors from Sumatra, Java, and Kalimantan with the host being the University of North Sumatra (USU).
Muryanto Amin, who is also the Chancellor of USU, hopes that the presence of a state university in the Lake Toba area will be able to support the program to improve human resources (HR) and accelerate development in the seven districts surrounding the largest lake in Southeast Asia.
USU with its various advantages, he continued, if asked is always ready to provide input and establish more intensive scientific collaboration with KMDT in order to support the establishment of the Lake Toba Resort International State University.
Chairman of the DPP KMDT Edison Manurung, SH, M.M, expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the support of the BKS-PTN West Region ranks for the plan to establish the first state university in the Lake Toba area.
"The contribution of the BKS-PTN West Region is greatly needed by KMDT in supporting the plan to establish the Lake Toba Resort International State University," said Edison accompanied by the Secretary General of the DPP KMDT Prof. Dr. Iskandar Zulkarnain, M.Si.
Regarding this, said the former Expert Staff of the Chairman of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia, his party in the near future has scheduled a meeting with the Chancellor of USU and the Chancellor of the State University of Medan (Unimed).
Edison further expressed the idea of the importance of establishing a state university in the Lake Toba area as an implementation of the constitutional mandate, that education is a right for every citizen.
Therefore, according to him, access to educational facilities, including higher education, must be accessible to all levels of society, including high school graduates from economically disadvantaged families.
The 2024 BKS-PTN West Region annual meeting was also filled with the signing of a joint memorandum of understanding (MoU) between KMDT and USU.
The MoU signed by USU Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, M.Si and General Chairperson of DPP KMDT Edison Manurung, SH, M.M was in order to strengthen cooperation in the fields of education and research that are beneficial to the community.
