BERJAYA HELD EXERCISES FOR MANAGEMENT OF LEFTOVER EGG SHELLS & SHELLS FOR ORGANIC FISH FEED IN VILLAGE SIMPANG MANGGA BAWAH NAGA JAYA 1 SIMALUNGUN
a training program entitled “Exercise in Managing Leftover Egg Shells & Shellfish for Making Organic Fish Feed Pellets” has taken place in Simpang Mangga Bawah Naga Jaya I Village, Bandar Huluan District, Simalungun. This program is the result of collaboration between the USU Abdimas Team and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Malaysia which aims to support sustainable waste management and empower the community by increasing skills in producing organic fish food. This exercise was attended by 10 participants consisting of fish pond farmers such as goldfish, catfish, tilapia and gourami. They have the opportunity to gain practical and theoretical knowledge about how to process leftover egg shells and shellfish into fish food with high economic value. Apart from that, participants also received the handover of a fish feed pellet machine from the Chief Executive, Dr. Muhammad Sontang Sihotang, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer from the Physics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the University of North Sumatra (USU)-Medan.
Apart from that, during the ceremony, a fish feed pellet machine was also symbolically handed over to USU Farmers' Community Service Partner, Encik Muhammad Amin. It is hoped that this handover can support the independent feed production process and increase efficiency in their business. Also present at the event were Dra. Dara Aisyah, M.Si., PhD (Lecturer at USU's Faculty of Social & Political Sciences), who also provided valuable support and insight throughout the program.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Darma Bakti, M.Sc. (Senior Professor, Faculty of Agriculture, USU) and Prof. Datuk ChM. Ts. Dr. Taufiq Yap Yun Hin (Senior Professor Datuk is currently the Senior Professor (VK5) at Universiti Putra Malaysia / UPM Malaysia and Chairman, Board of Director, University College of MAIWP International (UCMI), Department of Chemistry UPM, the Center of Excellence for Catalysis Science and Technology (PutraCAT) is scheduled to be present at the next event which will be held from 19 to 22 September 2025.
Their presence was arranged because on Friday, August 7 2025, they were unable to attend due to schedule constraints. This information was obtained from a press release sent by online media journalists to the North Sumatra University (USU) Community Service Team. This program not only increases community skills but is also a positive step in supporting farmer independence and the sustainability of fish growing activities in the area. The ceremony ended with the presentation of a certificate as a training participant & a photo session and video memories in the Mitra fish pond area as documentation of the glory and spirit of cooperation of all parties involved. It is hoped that with this exercise, the community can manage waste more efficiently, effectively and organically, increase their yields and economy, and contribute to the preservation of the surrounding nature.
