Medan, The government together with stakeholders must work together to combat stunting with collaboration of supplementary food and Posyandu cadres in monitoring toddler growth in Medan Sunggal District.
dr. Halinda Sari Lubis, MKKK said, Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem due to lack of nutritional intake over a long period of time. Based on data from the Ministry of Health, the stunting rate in Indonesia in 2023 was recorded at 21.5%. Stunting is caused by various interrelated factors including malnutrition, infection and disease, maternal health conditions, limited access to health services, social and economic factors, poor parenting patterns, especially in the behavior and practice of feeding children, lack of maternal knowledge, and others.
The community service activity that was carried out on July 29, 2024 at one of the Posyandu sub-health centers Balam Jl. Setia Budi, Gg. Ampera, Kec. Medan Sunggal was chaired by dr. Halinda Sari Lubis, MKKK with team members dr. Devi Nuraini Santi, MKes and Sarah Patumona Manalu, SKM, MSc were attended, as well as 3 students from the Faculty of Public Health, University of North Sumatra attended by activity participants including mothers and toddlers, integrated health post cadres, immunization officers and the head of the Balam assistant health center, dr. Gendis Dessy Maoulidya, MKM.
This community service activity aims to educate the local community about stunting problems, causes of stunting, and prevention and control. In addition, the activity also focuses on increasing the empowerment of integrated health post cadres in monitoring stunting cases. Integrated health post cadres play an active role in the process of monitoring toddler growth which can be seen from the Healthy Menu Card (KMS) through every scheduled routine meeting
