MEDAN, Application of Solar Panel Technology in Maintaining Continuity of Electrical Energy to Supply the Sound System of the AT Taqwa Mosque, Suka Maju Village, Sunggal District
Lecturers and students of the Faculty of Engineering, University of North Sumatra (USU) carried out community service with an economic and social scheme through the Community Service and Service Institute of the University of North Sumatra (LPPM-USU).
The activity took place at the At-Taqwa Mosque, Dusun 3 Sei Sengkol, Suka Maju Village, Sunggal District, Deliserdang Regency, North Sumatra (Sumut).
A mosque is a place of worship that plays a central role in the lives of Muslims. As the main place for prayer, the mosque is also used as a center for religious, educational, and social activities for the Muslim community. The sound system in the mosque plays an important role in ensuring that the voices of the imam, muezzin, and other activities are heard clearly throughout the mosque area.
The At-Taqwa Mosque is one of several mosques in Suka Maju Village, Sunggal District, Deliserdang Regency.
In operating its sound system, the At-Taqwa Mosque still uses electrical energy supplied by the State Electricity Company (PLN) to meet its electrical energy needs. This has an impact on the instability of the supply of electrical energy because sudden power outages can occur.
Power outages cause the sound system to become inactive.
This incident is very risky if it occurs when the sound system is needed, such as during the call to prayer, sermons/lectures, and during congregational prayers. Operating the sound system will also increase the electricity usage rates that must be paid.
Therefore, through Community Service sourced from the USU Community Service Institute Community Service Fund in 2024 which is one of the tri dharma of higher education, the service team consisting of Ir. Ferry Rahmat A. Bukit, ST., MT, IPM, Ir. Riswan Dinzi, MT, Ryandika Afdila, ST., M.Eng.Sc, and Ir. Nismah Panjaitan, ST, MT, Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN. applying solar panel technology in providing electrical energy for the At-Taqwa Mosque sound system.
This activity was welcomed by the chairman of the At-Taqwa Mosque BKM, Mr. Arif Pohan and was very enthusiastic in participating in the demonstration of the use of PLTS to supply electricity for the mosque sound system.
The installation process was carried out for one day which included installing the frame, assembling the solar panels, installing the inverter, panels, batteries and then testing.
