Medan - Lecturers of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, University of North Sumatra (USU) through the Community Service Institute (LPPM), again carried out Community Service (PKM) in Denai Sarang Burung Village, Deliserdang, North Sumatra (Sumut), Thursday, August 8, 2024.
The activity, which carried the theme "Utilization of Financial Technology for the Development of Home Businesses to Increase Community Income in Denai Sarang Burung Village" was chaired by Beby Kendida Hasibuan, Prof. Isfenti Sadalia, and Yunita Sarah Siregar, as members.
The service also involved D3 Finance students from the USU Faculty of Vocational Studies, namely Maulana Annas Rasyid, Jessicca Anastasya, and Thesalonica Aritonang.
According to Beby, in the midst of the rapid development of the era and the digital era, the ability to manage finances wisely is becoming increasingly crucial, especially for business actors. Especially for those who run home businesses.
"Understanding and implementing healthy financial management principles not only determines the sustainability of a business, but is also the key to achieving financial well-being and improving the quality of life," he said, Friday (8/23).
Beby also emphasized the importance of having two wallets when running a business. This is a strategy that has proven effective in maintaining financial stability and minimizing risk. This strategy, he said, will help separate personal expenses from business finances.
"Separating business and personal finances also increases transparency and accountability in running a business. I can easily see how much income, how much expenditure, and how much profit is obtained. This helps me make wiser business decisions based on accurate data," he said.
Meanwhile, the resource person for the activity, Lailan Syafrina Hasibuan, stated that small business actors are trapped in a cycle of 'chasing profit' without considering the importance of saving for the future.
He said that this education also invites participants to save, even if it is only IDR 2,000 per day for one month. This is a positive step to start saving.
"After one month, participants will be evaluated by sharing experiences and calculating total savings. This is to build participants' habits of saving," he explained.
Another resource person, Wina Nurfitriani, invited participants to set clear financial goals and use savings to achieve them.
"Don't be afraid to dream big, use savings as a tool to realize those dreams. Remember, every rupiah saved is a step closer to a better and more prosperous future," he advised.
Meanwhile, Prof. Isfenti Sadalia explained that running a home business in a village has its own challenges, especially managing finances well. Therefore, this program is designed to provide knowledge and practical skills about effective financial management, so that it can encourage the development of home businesses for mothers and improve the welfare of the Denai Sarang Burung Village community.
For your information, this PKM provides training, education, and teaching to the team for the most basic financial management discussing effective financial management strategies for the Denai Sarang Burung Village community, especially business actors.
Participants are invited to understand the importance of implementing a 'two wallets' system in separating personal and business finances. In addition, practical tips and tricks are given to build consistent saving habits.
Through interactive discussions and workshops, it is hoped that participants can manage business finances more wisely and utilize savings to achieve long-term financial goals.
