Kuta Mbelin, STM Hulu — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the University of North Sumatra (USU) conducted a working visit to Kuta Mbelin Village, STM Hulu District, Deli Serdang Regency, on Friday, June 13, 2025. This visit is a concrete step in strengthening the synergy between universities and village governments in developing digitalization and community empowerment based on data and science.
In the USU FMIPA group, the Deputy Dean III of USU FMIPA, Prof. Dr. Budi Miswar, who was accompanied by a number of lecturers and education staff, was present. The group was welcomed by the Head of STM Hulu District, Mr. Antonius Tarigan, S.Sos., MAP, the Head of Kuta Mbelin Village, Mr. Pikkir Tarigan, and all village officials who attended the meeting.
The meeting was held at the Kuta Mbelin Village Hall with the main agenda of discussing the Cooperation between FMIPA USU and Kutambelin Village, signing the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and Implementation of Agreement (IA).
In his opening remarks, the Head of STM Hulu Sub-district was very pleased with this cooperation agreement. His hope is that with this cooperation with FMIPA, the ideals of Kutambelin Village to become a pilot village as one of the Smart Villages will be easily achieved due to the direct involvement of academic institutions. This remark was also continued with the delivery of hopes by Mr. Pikkir that in the future USU can provide significant changes to Kutambelin Village, one of which is Digitalization.
The hopes that have been conveyed will of course be followed up in the next activity, namely the 2025 Fostered Village Program, concluded the Deputy Dean III for research, community service and Cooperation of FMIPA USU. In this discussion, Muhammad Romi Syahputra, S.Si., M.Si, Secretary of the Undergraduate Mathematics Study Program also said that in the future USU has also prepared several programs that will be run in Kutambelin Village in 2025. This foster village activity is the 2nd annual activity led by Prof. Dr. Syahril Efendi, M.IT, Professor of the Faculty of Computer Science and Informatics Technology.
This activity was closed with the handover of a plaque from FMIPA USU to the head of Kutambelin village and a group photo with all parties present.
Before the FMIPA team left for Medan, the Head of Kutambelin Village hosted the entire team for lunch together enjoying Grilled Carp on the riverbank which became the forerunner of the tourist spot in the village.
