Lecturers from Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) together with Lecturers of Law from Universitas Samudera conducted National Collaborative Community Service in Gampong Sungai Lueng, East Langsa, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province on Thursday (18/7/2024).
The community service with the theme "Carbon Trading Literacy in the Sungai Lueng Langsa Village Community" was chaired by Dr. Mahmul Siregar, S.H., M.Hum, with members Dr. Vita Cita Emia Tarigan SH LL.M, Dr. Mahmud Mulyadi SH M.Hum, Yeti Meliany Lubis SE., M.Sc., Ak, CA, and Dr. M Iqbal Asnawi SH M.H, as well as several students from Universitas Sumatera Utara and Universitas Samudera.
"This service was also attended by representatives of the Regional Head of PTPN IV, KSU VI Aceh, Rusni Ahmad, SE and Arie Afzal, SE as a form of support from the Company to make Gampong Sungai Lueng a low-carbon village through the potential of mangrove plants owned by the Community," said Dr. Mahmul in a written statement received by the RMOLSumut News Agency, Saturday (20/7).
Meanwhile, Dr. Vita said that the main purpose of this service is to provide education or literacy to the Community in Gampong Sungai Lueng regarding the potential of mangrove plants in absorbing carbon in an effort to reduce the impact of increasingly high global warming.
"The opportunity for the Village Community to get incentives from carbon trading and also to establish cooperation with companies around Gampong Sungai Lueng to make Gampong Sungai Lueng a low-carbon village," he explained.
This was also emphasized by Dr. Iqbal, because this village is the largest village that has mangroves, namely 3180.75 ha or 67% of the total mangrove area in Langsa City.
