Binjai - Prof. Dr. Dra. Ida Yustina, M.Si from the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) ofUniversitas Sumatera Utara (USU) conducted community service activities at the Rambung Health Center in Binjai City.
On that occasion, she conveyed a message about the importance of mothers providing exclusive breast milk (ASI) to babies up to the age of two years.
"Self-efficacy or self-confidence of pregnant women is an important factor that influences the mother's decision to provide breast milk to babies up to 2 years old," she said in a written statement, Monday (9/9).
The activity, which was held on Monday (19/8/2024), took the theme "Increasing Self-Efficacy of Pregnant Women in Providing Breast Milk at the Rambung Health Center, Binjai City". On that occasion, Prof. Ida introduced Self-Efficacy in breastfeeding, techniques and benefits of breastfeeding.
"Through this activity, we want to help pregnant women feel more confident and ready to face the challenges of breastfeeding," said Prof. Ida.
"We hope that the knowledge and skills provided today can be implemented by pregnant women, and ultimately can increase the rate of exclusive breastfeeding in this area," he continued.
This activity was attended by 40 pregnant women and the coordinating midwife at the Rambung Health Center. The enthusiasm of the participants was clearly visible during the activity. Pregnant women and prospective mothers who attended expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the training provided.
"I feel more confident after attending this workshop. Now I know the right way to breastfeed and how to overcome problems that may occur in the future," said Siti, one of the participants who attended.
The Head of the Rambung Health Center, Sulistiawan, SKM, M.Kes, supported the FKM USU initiative to hold the activity. He emphasized the importance of education and support for pregnant women in the area.
This community service activity is part of FKM USU's commitment to contributing to improving public health, especially in the aspect of maternal and child health.
Through this initiative, it is hoped that there will be closer cooperation between academics, medical personnel, and the community in an effort to improve the quality of life and health of families.
With continued support from various parties, it is hoped that the achievement in providing exclusive breastfeeding can continue to increase, providing long-term benefits for the health of future generations.
