Increasing Tourism Awareness, USU Performs Community Service

Medan – University of North Sumatra (USU), through the community service team, is implementing a service program with the theme "Increasing Tourism Awareness and Community Participation in Sustainable Tourism Development Efforts at Ketaren Natural Baths, Sibolangit Village". This program aims to increase tourism awareness and local community participation in developing sustainable tourism. The head of the community service team, Drs Jhonson Pardosi M.Si Ph.D said, this activity is part of USU's commitment to supporting local tourism development through a sustainable approach.
"We want to help the people of Sibolangit Village to better understand the tourism potential in their area and how to manage this potential in a sustainable way so that it can provide long-term benefits for the local economy and the environment," said Drs Jhonson Pardosi.
He said, during this service program, the USU team held a series of activities, including initial surveys, seminars and workshops on the importance of sustainable tourism, training for local communities on managing tourist attractions, handing over assets, as well as mutual cooperation activities to improve cleanliness and attractiveness. Appearing as a resource person in this community service, Drs. Jhonson Pardosi M.Si Ph.D, Drs. Torang Naiborhu, M.Hum, and Ilham Mirzaya Putra, SE M.Si (USU Postgraduate student who also teaches at UIN North Sumatra Medan). Community service involved 2 students, namely, Ezekiel Lantula Pardosi, and Calvin Reynaldi Panggabean.
"With active participation from the community, we hope that Sibolangit Village can become a tourist destination that is increasingly known and in demand by tourists, both local and foreign. "Apart from that, this program is also expected to improve the welfare of the local community through increasing economic opportunities arising from the tourism sector," said Jhonson Pardosi.
Sibolangit Village Head Samiranta Ketaren said he was proud of this activity. "We are very grateful to USU for its support in developing tourism potential in Sibolangit Village. With this community service program, we hope that people will be more aware of the importance of preserving nature and utilizing tourism potential wisely. Active community participation is very important to achieve this goal," he said.
USU really hopes that, through this community service program, Sibolangit Village can become an example of how sustainable tourism development can be carried out in tourist villages by involving the active participation of local communities and utilizing natural potential wisely.
