PHBS Since Early Age, USU Empowers Bustan Tsamrotul Qolbis Students

Lecturers at the Faculty of Public Health of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held community service activities at Sidodadi Ramunia Beringin, Lubuk Pakam. This activity carries the theme "Empowerment of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) in Bustan Tsamrotul Qolbis (BTQ) Students" which is chaired by Drs. Tukiman, M.K.M with members Dra. Syarifah M.S and Dr. dr. Taufik Ashar, M.K.M and involves students from the undergraduate in Public Health, namely Kharien Nazwa Nabila, Windi Andini, and Nabila Rizqi Lingga. This activity is also supported by funding from Non-PNBP LPPM USU for the 2024 Fiscal Year.

The activity, which took place on August 8, 2024, aims to instill awareness of the importance of PHBS from an early age in children. It started at 2.00 PM and was held in the Bustan Tsamrotul Qolbis Classroom which was attended by teachers and 40 students of the school. Participants were very enthusiastic in following the counseling as indicated by the fact that there was no decrease in participants from the beginning to the end of the counseling, in fact they were even more interested in listening. Drs. Tukiman, M.K.M provided education on the importance of PHBS. In his presentation, he said that Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) in schools aims to create a clean and healthy environment with indicators such as washing hands with soap, consuming healthy snacks, using clean toilets, exercising regularly, eradication of mosquito larvae, smoking bans, proper waste disposal, and community service with school residents.

"Children are the nation's assets. By instilling clean and healthy living habits from an early age, we have provided valuable provisions for their future, " said the Head of the Community Service Team, Drs. Tukiman, M.K.M. Furthermore, education about maintaining the cleanliness of the school environment was delivered by Dr. dr. Taufik Ashar, M.K.M. The cleanliness of the school environment is very important because it affects the comfort and health of all school residents. A clean school environment makes us can study with focus and avoid various diseases. To maintain school cleanliness, we need to throw trash in its place, work together diligently, carry out class duty responsibly, and obey school rules.

"A dirty school environment can be a source of disease and disrupt the comfort of learning. Scattered garbage, dust, and unpleasant odors can cause various health problems. Let's work together to maintain the cleanliness of the school so that we can learn comfortably and healthily," said Dr. dr. Taufik, M.K.M.

The lecturers who provided the counseling looked very interactive, conveying important things about Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) in a straightforward language that was very understandable by the students. The rector also invited the students who attended the counseling to actively ask questions. Continued with video screening on matters related to the counseling material. Through the screening of the video, it is hoped that it can increase students' insight so that they are able to implement PHBS in the school environment.

Mr. Sunaidi as the school representative welcomed this community service activity. "We are very grateful to the USU FKM lecturer team who have given attention to our students. This activity is very useful in increasing students' awareness of the importance of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior," he said. With this activity, it is hoped that BTQ students can become agents of change in their families and the surrounding environment. They can invite friends and family to implement PHBS in their daily lives.
