Medan - Three lecturers from Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) are implementing a community service program, namely mentoring and preparing a master plan for the Rempah Denai Kuala Tourism Village, Deliserdang, North Sumatra.
The implementing team of lecturers consists of the Chairperson, Dr. Salmina Wati Ginting, ST., MT and members Samerdanta Sinulingga, S.ST.Par., M.Par and Ar. Agus Jhonson H. Sitorus, ST., MT., IAI.
The head of the community service implementation team, Salmina Wati Ginting, said that in this community service, the target partner is the Rumah Nusa HAPSARI Community in Denai Kuala Village, Pantai Labu District, Deliserdang Regency on July 28, 2024.
"The village masterplan is a long-term village development planning program that is oriented towards building independent villages in terms of food, energy, and disaster resilience based on a competitive local economy," said Salmina, Wednesday (7/31/2024).
She said that in addition to compiling a village profile, a village development roadmap and building a village identity through cultural promotion and festival activities, one of the important things in compiling a village masterplan is the area design.
The design should be sustainable and based on nature and the community. The masterplan is usually realized (built) in stages.
"The Family Nutrition House Community (Rumah Nusa) HAPSARI is a community of Denai Kuala village residents who plant yards with three types of plants in three zones to answer the challenges of climate change which have an impact on the food crisis," she said.
Salmina said that the Rumah Nusa program is expected to prepare each family to have non-rice food reserves obtained from their yards.
This program has been implemented in 27 villages, 16 sub-districts and 5 regencies, namely Karo, Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai, Tebing Tinggi and Labuhan Batu regencies, all of which are in the province of North Sumatra.
The Rumah Nusa Community has produced home industry products with spices from yards such as lemongrass oil and spiced tea. In 2024, the Rumah Nusa Community wants to develop the Rumah Nusa program to be more progressive and more profitable by developing Denai Kuala Village into a spice tourism village.
The USU Team, he continued, welcomed the plan by creating a master plan for a pioneering tourist village. For the initial stage, the design of the area is focused only on Hamlet 3 which is the most productive in terms of spices.
"A spice snack center will be built here that can increase the income of the community, especially mothers from the Rumah Nusa Hapsari Community. This snack center is a spice culinary tourism center that sells various spice products such as spice tea, spice cakes, spice chicken, spice duck, and so on," he said.
On July 28, 2024, at Hamlet 3, Denai Kuala Village, a socialization and discussion of the snack center design was carried out. Present at the event were the Chairperson of HAPSARI Sri Rahayu and other HAPSARI administrators. In addition, around 25 mothers from the Rumah Nusa Community from Hamlets 1 to 5 were also present.
The head of the USU community service committee, Salmina Wati Ginting, explained the architectural design of the snack center through 3D image animation and video.
In addition to the discussion on the snack center design, a discussion was also held on Ibu Mandiri, Ibu Berjualan, guided by Lazuar Ramadhan, Head of Trade Marketing of the Kopi Kenangan company, online using the Zoom application.
According to Salmina Ginting, the mothers who are members of the Rumah Nusa Hapsari Community need training and assistance on how to sell well so that the snack center that is designed can be useful and significantly improve the welfare of the mothers.
In general, the Rumah Nusa HAPSARI Community welcomed the design submitted by the USU Team. Some suggestions made were that the design of the spice snack center should not be "very Javanese" considering that in the Denai Kuala village there are other ethnic groups, namely Malay and Batak, which are also dominant. The USU team promised to revise the design and will discuss it again with the Rumah Nusa Community.*
