The University of North Sumatra (USU) in collaboration with Syiah Kuala University (USK) held a Community Service (PKM) activity entitled 'Generative AI Risk Mitigation in Education: Ethics and Prevention of Academic Fraud'. This activity took place at SMA Labschool Unsyiah, Banda Aceh, Saturday, August 9, 2025. The PKM was held as a direct response to the increasing use of Generative AI technology such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot by students. Although considered useful in supporting the learning process, this technology also presents risks of misuse, such as automatic plagiarism, machine-generated assignments, and decreased quality of the learning process due to dependency. "Students today not only need to know how to use AI technology, but also must understand the ethical limits of its use. This is what we are trying to instill through this activity," said Dr. Amalia, S.T., M.T., the Head of the Implementation Committee from USU. The activity was facilitated by a team of lecturers, educational staff, and students from both institutions. From the University of North Sumatra, Dr. Maya Silvi Lydia, B.Sc., M.Sc., Prof. Dr. Romi Fadillah Rahmat, B.Comp.Sc., M.Sc., Mohammad Fadly Syah Putra, M.Sc., and Dr. Pauzi Ibrahim Nainggolan, S.Komp., M.Sc. Meanwhile, from Syiah Kuala University, the training was filled by Dr. Ir. Melinda, S.T., M.Sc., IPU., ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng., and Prof. Dr. Ir. Roslidar, S.T., M.Sc., IPM., ASEAN Eng. Educational staff Syahraini Syahril, A.Md. also supported the activity, along with student implementers: Wilbert Neilson Sachio, Frederick Godiva, Vanessa Audrie Tanaka, and Ivanny Putri Marianto. In the training, students were invited to recognize the benefits and potential deviations in the use of AI, especially in an academic context. This approach has proven effective. Based on pre- and post-activity surveys, there was a significant increase in students' understanding of the ethical issues of AI use. "Before the training, many students did not really understand the negative impact of AI on academic integrity. But after the training, they became more critical and aware of the importance of using this technology responsibly," said Dr. Maya Silvi Lydia. By holding this activity, PKM is expected to not only provide technical understanding, but also instill digital ethical values in students as a generation growing up in the technological era.
