Tourism Village Innovation: Improving Human Resources Quality through Community Service at USU

"Innovation in Tourism Villages Through Improving the Quality of Human Resources to Increase Community Income in Sibolangit Tourism Village, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra" was the theme presented by the USU community service team, chaired by Prof. Dr. Erika Revida, MS, on July 17-18, 2025, at the Sibolangit Village Hall, Deli Serdang Regency.

Professor of the University of North Sumatra (USU), Prof. Dr. Erika Revida, MS, stated that this activity aims to motivate tourism village communities to be able and willing to manage tourism villages based on their potential in an innovative and professional manner. This includes improving the quality of human resources, including tourism services, entrepreneurship, homestay management, digital marketing, and the creation of local creative economy products.

"The key to developing a tourism village lies not only in its natural beauty or local culture, but also in the quality of the human resources directly involved," said Prof. Dr. Erika Revida, MS.

During the activity, the community was provided with information, discussions, questions, and simulations about the importance of tourism village innovation through improving the quality of human resources to increase community income, reduce unemployment, create jobs, reduce urbanization, and preserve nature, culture, and the environment. This activity received full support from the village government, MSMEs, and the local tourism awareness group (Pokdarwis).

Sibolangit Village Head Samirata Ketaren and the head of the tourism awareness group, Gelora Depari, expressed their appreciation for this program in their remarks for its direct impact on improving the community's knowledge and skills.

"Furthermore, this will improve the quality of Sibolangit tourism village. This program is part of the Tridharma of Higher Education, implemented by lecturers at USU," said Samirata Ketaren.
