Sibolangit, USU (University of North Sumatra) Community Service Team carried out community service in Sibolangit Village, Sibolangit District, Deli Serdang Regency, last Saturday (24/8).
This activity carries the theme "Exploration and Development of Local Tourism: Active Role of the Community in Increasing Sustainable Tourism in Sibolangit Village".
The community service team was led by Dr. Esther Sorta Mauli Nababan MSc with the support of four other members, namely Dr. Suryati Sitepu MSi, Yan Batara Putra Siringoringo SSi M Si and Citra Dewi Hasibuan SSi MSc. The activity was also attended by three Statistics students from the USU Faculty of Vocational Studies.
Before holding a workshop for the community, the community service team first visited Sibolangit Village and reviewed the tourist attractions in Sibolangit Village. After the visit, the community service team then held an FGD (Focus Group Discussion) with the community.
"What are the obstacles in Sibolangit Village that have not yet become a tourist village known to people outside Sibolangit, Sir, Madam?", asked Citra Dewi Hasibuan. The activity that lasted all day received a positive response from the community. According to the speaker Koko Sujatmoko, as a tourism lecturer, this workshop not only discussed obstacles and their solutions, but also re-examined Sapta Pesona which is the slogan of the Indonesian tourism industry.
"Tourism awareness is the beginning of the creation of the points of Sapta Pesona. Sustainable tourism development can be realized with the active role and creativity of the community, because tourism is a creative economy." said Koko. Hearing this, a young man responded by asking about the initial stages of starting tourism creativity. According to the young man, they had started creativity by participating in tourism competitions. However, the results of that creativity have not shown progress.
"Find a photographer who can create and accompany tourist attractions with models." added Koko. The event was closed by giving grants and souvenirs in the form of plaques to Sibolangit Village as an expression of gratitude and memento. The service team, Yan Batara Putra Siringo-ringo and Citra Dewi Hasibuan also expressed their gratitude for the community's participation and enthusiasm for this service. Both of them hope that the community will succeed in realizing a Tourism Village in Sibolangit Village.
