MEDAN, USU students involved in Community Service (PKM) carried out educational activities for grade XII science students about learning Physics through experimental and demonstration methods.
The PKM group led by Dr. Martha Rianna, S.Si with members Prof. Dr. Perdinan Sinuhaji, M.S and student service members from the Physics Study Program, FMIPA USU. Also involved were Lastri Debora Sitanggang, Apriani Pirdasari Sidabutar, Marnala Windawati Togatorop, Dara Diva Nasution, Grace Davina br. Manullang, and Febriana Atila Kaban.
The Community Service activity was attended by 71 students of grade XII majoring in science.
The Principal of SMA Negeri 9 Medan, Mrs. Dra. Ade Melinda Banjarnahor, M.Si, and several teachers at SMA Negeri 9 Medan. The delivery of Physics Learning Through Experimental Methods was carried out in the Science Laboratory room of SMA Negeri 9 Medan.
In the opening activity by Mrs. Dra. Ade Melinda Banjarnahor, M.Si as the Principal of SMA Negeri 9 Medan appreciated the PKM USU activities in her school environment.
"I am grateful for the attention and learning provided by the USU community service team. Hopefully after this activity is carried out, all students who participate will be inspired and also raise the spirit of learning for students, especially in the field of Physics," he said.
Then after the delivery of the welcoming speech by the Principal of SMA Negeri 9 Medan, the USU Community Service Team handed over a Plaque and also 10 Books, including the Biography of Physics Scientists, the Encyclopedia of Physics, and several types of Physics books that were donated to SMA Negeri 9 Medan.
All students were divided into several groups to conduct simple experiments presented by the Community Service Team. The students explained the moment of inertia and solenoid practicum.
The delivery of Physics Learning Through the experimental method was carried out in a very interesting and enjoyable way, so that students did not feel bored. Learning began with the delivery of a little theory that supported the title of the experiment, then the Community Service Team students would immediately explain the experimental procedure, while practicing it directly and all students paid attention.
Then after the students had finished explaining it, the students would be given time to try the experiment that had been explained again, each group was directed to analyze each event that occurred, and linked it to the theory that had been explained at the beginning.
After finishing, the students would explain again and conclude the results of their experiments. Interestingly, there were many groups who dared to come forward and explain the results of their experiments well.
In this activity, the Community Service Team chose the most compact group, and the most appropriate to explain the results of the experiment.
The activity continued with a question and answer session. The enthusiasm of the participants was very much felt, they asked about every Physics phenomenon that occurred during the practicum, this was a new experience for the service student members. The Service Team also appreciated the active groups, and for students who asked and dared to answer questions, they were given prizes prepared by the Service Team.
The participants hope that this activity will not be the last, so that there will be other community service teams that will hold similar activities, because this activity is very good for sharing knowledge.
According to the Head of Community Service, Dr. Martha Rianna, this activity is a form of concern from lecturers and students in implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. This is also inseparable from the support of LPPM USU.
"We hope that with this activity, students of SMA Negeri 9 Medan will not consider Physics a difficult lesson as long as they can understand the basic concepts of each Physics material.
Martha also explained that in addition to sharing Physics knowledge, the Community Service Team's activities also provide motivation to students.
"We hope that this activity will make students always study hard so that they get the best grades and can graduate from the college they aspire to." She concluded.
