USU Community Service Team Trains Students to Use AI for Da'wah Content

Medan - The Community Service Team of the University of North Sumatra Community Service Institute (LPM USU) held a community service entitled "Utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Creating Da'wah Content" which involved students of the North Sumatra Indonesian Da'wah Academy (ADI).

The activity was chaired by Prof. Dr. Tri Widyawati, M.Si., Ph.D (FK USU), with team member Dr. Yunilda, Andriyani, M.K.T., Sp.ParK (FK USU), Dr. Eng. Ir. Taufiq Bin Nur S.T., M.Eng.Sc (FT USU), and Imam Bagus Sumantri, S.Farm., M.Sc., Apt (FFharma USU) and also assisted by students namely, Tarisa Olivia, M. Rozan Fawwaz Syariq, Septian Nugraha, Saddam Haiqal, and Rezka Zuhra Maulida, who came from the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Agriculture, carried out three stages.

Head of the Community Service Team, Prof. Dr. Tri Widyawati, M.Sc., Ph.D said that the first stage of the service was, the delivery of the material on Tuesday (25/6/2024), then independent study. Meanwhile, a short video assignment presentation session containing da'wah using AI was held on Wednesday (3/7/2024).

"In the first stage, participants are given material regarding the use of AI in creating interactive and interesting preaching content. This material includes basic theory, content creation techniques, as well as how to use AI tools to improve the quality and effectiveness of preaching. The AI ​​that will be utilized is AI "which functions to create images, change images, change text into sound, and create videos from images. Apart from that, we also explained the use of video editors that can be obtained for free, such as KineMaster," explained Prof. Dr. Tri Widyawati, M.Sc., Ph.D.

At the second meeting, continued Prof. Dr. Tri Widyawati, M.Si., Ph.D, which was held on Wednesday (3/7/2024), was an important moment to discuss and present the results of the participants' work after the independent study session. The students showed high enthusiasm and extraordinary creativity in creating AI-based preaching content.

"They succeeded in implementing the learning theory that was presented previously well. To evaluate the activities, an initial survey and post test were also carried out," said Prof. Dr. Tri Widyawati, M.Sc., Ph.D.

As a follow-up to this activity, he continued, a Digital Da'wah Creator Unit was formed with the coordinator Ustadzah Siti Nur Komariah. It is hoped that this unit can continue to develop and utilize AI technology to support digital da'wah that is more effective and reaches more people.

“We are very proud of the enthusiasm and creativity shown by the students in this activity. "Hopefully with the existence of the Digital Da'wah Creator Unit, we can continue to innovate in spreading good messages through technology," said Prof. Tri.

It is hoped that this activity can be the first step for further development in the field of digital da'wah at ADI North Sumatra and its surroundings.
