Deliserdang - Lecturers from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences USU conducted community service related to the preservation of traditional cuisine, especially typical Malay ethnic food in Celawan Village, Pantai Cermin District, Deliserdang Regency.
This activity was carried out in stages since August 24, 2024 at the Bu Sal Restaurant, which is one of the few typical Malay restaurants that still exist today.
A number of students from the Malay Regional Literature Study Program also participated in this activity.
Head of the Community Service Team (PKM) Arie Azhari Nasution, MA, said that this activity focuses on strengthening businesses through digital media to support marketing activities and information related to the existence of typical Malay food at this time.
"Various developments and improvements were also carried out by the PKM team, such as renovating several parts of the stalls that were damaged," said Ari Azhari, Wednesday (4/9).
Through this activity, the USU PKM Team seeks to reintroduce to the community that the local wisdom possessed by the Malay community can be felt by various groups, especially in terms of culinary.
In addition, this service can also be a form of concern for traders so that their businesses can grow.
"Bu Sal's typical Malay restaurant is a hereditary restaurant founded by her parents. The taste produced from this stall does not differ from year to year," said Ari.
By fixing and repairing this restaurant, the research team is happy to be able to help traders who want to develop, especially those who have cultural characteristics such as Malay.
"With this service, it is hoped that it can help Bu Sal to develop and reintroduce it to the community so that they can taste typical Malay cuisine that is no less delicious than other culinary delights," he said.
