MEDAN. Tour guides to Independent Tourism Villages, Lecturers of Political Science, FISIP USU provide training for village tour guides in Tomok Village, Samosir Regency.
The implementation of community service activities chaired by Saipul Bahri, S.IP., M.Sos with the community service team Prof. Subhilhar, MA., Ph.D was carried out through training in improving the professionalism of tour guides in Tomok Village, Samosir Regency on August 19-22, 2024.
"This activity collaborates with the North Sumatra Provincial Government through the Tourism and Creative Economy Office and the Tomok Village Government by involving all village officials, Karang Taruna, BUMDES administrators of Tomok Village and the local community as participants," said Saipul Bahri, S.I.P., M.Sos as the chief executive.
According to Saipul Bahri, S.I.P., M.Sos, the community service program supported and funded by the USU Community Service Institute (LPM USU) is a form of responsibility of universities and lecturers in providing understanding to village communities as a real form of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.
Furthermore, this tour guide training is a form of real contribution from lecturers in regional development starting from the village, this is very important considering that the backbone of national development lies in regional development in the village. The village government must be a pioneer in accelerating development in the region, especially areas that have tourism potential such as in Samosir Regency.
He explained that Samosir Regency was designated as one of the areas that has many tourist destinations in North Sumatra, one of the supporting villages in tourism development is located in Tomok Village, Negeri Indah Kepingan Surga.
"If we refer to the data, the tourist destination of Tomok Village reaches 142,103 people which ultimately has the potential to increase the income of the community in Tomok Village. On the other hand, the Head of Tomok Village said that the community service program activities of LPM USU are clearly a real contribution, that a University like USU is present in the midst of society, helping the village government from a deadlock," he said yesterday.
Another thing he said, USU lecturers are present to provide knowledge, open the minds of the community to the potential of Tomok Village. Furthermore, he said that in forming the spirit of developing Tomok Village as a tourist village, one of the efforts to drive the economy in the midst of a downturn must synergize with all existing elements such as USU.
The material presented in this professional tour guide service program is related to HR, Natural Potential, Economic Potential through the role of HR in Tomok Village and Local Wisdom History from the existence of tourist destinations that are tourist attractions.
Building synergy-collaboration with stakeholders is a must in responding to development challenges in the region. With the presence of this service activity, hopefully it can provide increased knowledge and development in Tomok Village to become a Tourist Village that has innovation, creativity in realizing a progressive Tomok Village not only as a symbol of a piece of heaven.
