The Community Service Team of the University of North Sumatra (USU) conducted a community service activity themed "Community Empowerment in Sustainable Tourism Management at the Namu Sira-Sira Natural Baths, Durian Lingga Village, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra." The team leader, Drs. Jhonson Pardosi, M.Si., Ph.D., stated that this activity aimed to increase local community awareness and skills in sustainable tourism destination management, while also supporting environmental conservation in the area.
He added that the community service program was attended by 20 participants, consisting of local residents and local tourism managers. He continued, "Explore Sumatera, chaired by Jhoni Kurniawan, is a partner in this activity, supporting and facilitating the activity."
He explained that the activity began with the creation of an environmental literacy corner aimed at increasing public awareness of the importance of environmental management in tourism development. "Furthermore, tree planting was carried out as a concrete effort to preserve nature and improve the environmental quality around the Namu Sira-Sira Natural Baths," he said.
Furthermore, he added, this activity The program also includes outreach on environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism management. Through this outreach, participants are expected to understand the concept of sustainable tourism, which prioritizes a balance between nature conservation and the utilization of natural resources for the benefit of the local economy.
"We hope this activity will have a positive impact on tourism management at the Namu Sira-Sira Natural Baths and serve as an example for other tourist destinations in Sumatra in implementing sustainable tourism principles," said Jhonson Pardosi. Pardosi explained that this community service activity not only focuses on community empowerment but also strengthens collaboration between the University of North Sumatra, the local community, and the community service partner, Explore Sumatera, in creating a sustainable and beneficial tourism destination for all parties.
