Medan, Lecturers from the University of North Sumatra (USU) conducted community service regarding the Prevention of Chronic Energy Deficiency in Pregnant Women with Ante Natal Care and Provision of Additional Food at the Balam Sei Sikambing Sub-Health Center, Yesterday.
Chronic Energy Deficiency (KEK) in pregnant women is one of the causes of maternal and child mortality and low birth weight, and this mortality rate is relatively high in Indonesia. The efforts made are to optimize ante natal care and Provision of Additional Food (PMT).
For this reason, lecturers and students from the University of Sumatra (USU) conducted Community Service with the title "Prevention of Chronic Energy Deficiency in Pregnant Women with Optimization of Ante Natal Care and Provision of Additional Food" Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the Balam Sub-Health Center, Sei Sikambing B Village, Medan Sunggal District.
This service was chaired by a lecturer from the USU FKM, Dr. Devi Nuraini Santi, MKes with members Drs. Alam Bakti Keloko, MKes and Sarah Patumona Manalu, SKM, MSc and attended by dr. Gendis Dessy M., M.K.M
Head of the community service team dr. Devi Nuraini Santi, MKes said that with this service, it is hoped that the fetus can be born healthy and the mother is also healthy.
The risk of KEK can be known by measuring the Upper Arm Circumference (Lila) with a threshold of less than 23.5 cm. Therefore, this community service activity begins with weighing weight, height, measuring the Upper Arm Circumference (Lila) and checking Hb in pregnant women.
Furthermore, by providing material on ANC and PMT to pregnant women. The community is given knowledge about KEK, providing food for pregnant women based on their trimester and providing education about the contents of my plate to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
"Avoid foods that can increase uric acid and cholesterol such as nuts. If we do not consume red meat with high carbohydrates, then cholesterol will not increase that much," said dr. Devi Nuraini Santi, MKes
Then at the end of the activity, participants were given boxed rice and snacks for pregnant women. This activity was responded to enthusiastically by the participants, as evidenced by the active participants in the discussion session.rel
