USU Lecturers Hold Community Service and Counseling in Humbahas

HUMBAHAS | The Community Service Institute of the University of North Sumatra (LPPM-USU) together with the community of Sitolu Bahal Village held a counseling activity on the procedures for cultivating certified Arabica coffee and the importance of strengthening Farmer Groups in Sitolu Bahal Village, Lintong Nihuta District, Humbang Hasundutan Regency, Thursday (18/07/24).

The counseling and mentoring activities aim to provide skills to the community of Sitolu Bahal Village.

The training resource persons are experts from LPPM-USU. One of the resource persons is Dr. Ir. Rahmanta, MSi, who presented material on good coffee agribusiness, including: land selection and suitability, land preparation, planting shade, nurseries, planting, fertilizing, pruning, integrated pest control, harvesting, coffee marketing and financing models in coffee farming.

Furthermore, Onrizal, S.Hut, M.Si, Ph.D, presented material on the importance of business diversification in coffee cultivation and handling of coffee harvests and post-harvests.

Other speakers, namely: Ir. M. Jufri, M.Si, who presented material on empowering farmer groups in the context of developing Arabica coffee farming businesses and the challenges, obstacles and opportunities faced in Arabica coffee agribusiness.

Meanwhile, the Head of Sitolu Bahal Village, Perry Ispayer Sihombing, expressed his gratitude to the team of lecturers for community service for providing counseling and guidance on Arabica coffee cultivation to farmers in Sitolu Bahal Village.

"We would like to thank you for the attention given to us by the team of lecturers for community service at the University of North Sumatra. Hopefully this activity can provide benefits and change the way people think in increasing their income," said Perry Ispayer Sihombing.

Furthermore, the team of lecturers for community service at the University of North Sumatra provided a donation to the Sitolu Bahal Village Community in the form of Arabica coffee seeds ready to be planted by farmers, as a form of optimizing the farmer group's business.

This donation is expected to be able to motivate the people in Sitolu Bahal Village to continue to develop productive businesses and activities that are beneficial and positive.

It is hoped that with the counseling and mentoring of certified Arabica coffee seed planting in Sitolu Bahal Village, it can improve farmers' skills in cultivating coffee, so that in the future it can increase the income of coffee farmers and the welfare of the surrounding community.
