DELISERDANG, UKM Ratu Tempe in Dusun IX, Dalu Sepuluh Village, Tanjungmorawa District, Deliserdang, has been experiencing problems in washing and peeling soybean skin. This is because the washing and peeling process takes quite a long time.
For this reason, the Community Service Team of the University of North Sumatra (USU) took the initiative to help increase the productivity of UKM Ratu Tempe by providing training and a soybean skin washing and peeling machine.
"In this service, we provide partners with a skin peeling machine and a soybean washing machine which can later increase the productivity of UKM Ratu Tempe," said Herty Afrina Sianturi S.Si, M.Si, as the head of the service through a written message, Friday (2/8/2024).
According to Herty, so far UKM Ratu Tempe has still used traditional tools. To peel 100 kg of soybean skin, they need up to 24 hours. Meanwhile, with this tool, it can be completed in just 15 minutes. "With this machine, we hope that partners can be more enthusiastic in producing tempeh and of course more hygienic," Herty hoped.
In addition, Herty continued, so far, UKM Ratu Tempe has washed soybeans manually by hand, which takes an hour. The results are also still less hygienic and less efficient, which affects tempeh productivity. "With this soybean washing machine technology, we hope to improve the hygiene and productivity of tempeh production," Herty said again.
UKM Ratu Tempe as a partner, expressed its gratitude to the USU Community Service Team. They also hope that with this machine, their tempeh productivity can increase and be more hygienic, so that our welfare can also increase. They also hope that this service can be held again next year.
This USU Community Service took place on Saturday (27/7), with Team Leader Herty Afrina Sianturi, S.Si, M.Si with members Dr. Susilawati, SSi, M.Si and Dr. Nauas Domu Marihot Romauli, S.Tp, M.Eng. They were assisted by three students, namely Aditia Tampubolon, Rendy Ginting, and Febriana Atila Kaban.
