USU Lecturers Train Feed Utilization

DELISERDANG, In order to increase the productivity of goats and sheep in Deliserdang Regency, Lecturers of the University of North Sumatra (USU) held Community Service (PKM) by holding training and socialization on the use of complete feed based on local raw materials and pakchong grass.

The community service which took place on July 13, 2024 in Perpanden Village, Kutalimbaru District, Deliserdang Regency consisted of USU Animal Husbandry Lecturers, namely the Head of the Community Service Team Uswatun Hasanah, S.Pt., M.Si, Galih Ari Wirawan Siregar, S.Pt., M,Si, Kennie Cendekia Desnamrina, S.Pt., M.Pt and Vivi Indriani, S.Pt., M.Si.

The Head of the Community Service Team Uswatun Hasanah said that the activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of farmers in producing quality feed so that they could increase the productivity of their sheep.

"The training, which lasted for 1 day, was attended by 20 sheep farmers in Perpaden Village. The participants were given material on the ideal composition of complete feed, how to make feed, and its benefits for the growth and health of sheep," he told Waspada, Friday (8/8).

Uswatun admitted that her party also provided a live demonstration of making complete feed in the field. This complete feed is specifically designed to meet the nutritional needs of Texel crossbred sheep, one of the popular types of sheep in the area.

"By utilizing local raw materials that are easy to obtain and cheap, this innovation is expected to help farmers increase their sheep productivity while reducing production costs," he said.

In addition to increasing farmers' income, this innovation also has the potential to reduce dependence on imported feed and increase local food security.

To support the sustainability of this program, the USU Community Service Team provided assistance in the form of a chopper machine and complete feed storage containers to the Perpanden Village Community.

Meanwhile, the Head of Perpanden Village, Setia Budi Sinulingga, welcomed this innovation positively and committed to supporting its development. He said, training like this is also very important to improve the quality of human resources in the livestock sector. "We hope that with this training, the welfare of livestock farmers in Perpanden Village can increase," he said
