MEDAN. The Community Service Institute (LPPM) of the University of North Sumatra continues to do its best for public health. This time, they are improving the level of dental and oral health of pregnant women as an effort to prevent stunting in the Labuhan Deli Health Center work area.
The team involved in the activity that took place on Tuesday (23/7) were the Chairperson, Gema Nazri Yanti, drg., M.Kes, Member 1, Siska Ella Natassa, drg., MDSc, and Member 2, Darmayanti Siregar, drg., M.KM;
The Head of the USU LPPM Team for the activity, Gema said that their target for community service was 60 pregnant women.
"Our activity targets 60 pregnant women, we carry out various activities in the form of counseling on the importance of maintaining dental and oral health during pregnancy, examination and consultation of dental and oral health of pregnant women, dental treatment in the form of cleaning tartar on pregnant women," he said.
It was also mentioned that during the community service activities, his party found problems and offered solutions.
He said, there is a problem of a fairly high prevalence of stunting. One of the factors that influences stunting is dental and oral health. Mothers who are at high risk of caries will also affect the nutrition of the prospective baby. So that dental and oral health problems can be associated with premature birth, low birth weight (LBW), and stunting.
Meanwhile, the goal that the community service team wants to achieve is to increase the knowledge and skills of pregnant women in maintaining dental and oral health as an effort to provide a positive impact on the health of the prospective baby.
