KABANJAHE, The Community Service Team (PKM) of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, University of North Sumatra (USU), provided a set of cake production tools modified from a meat grinder to dry cake and wet cake craftsmen in Kampung Dalam Village, Kabanjahe, Karo Regency, Saturday (3/8). So far, the craftsmen have still used manual tools to produce cakes so that the quality and quantity of production are limited.
"Moreover, they are still very dependent on electricity from PLN. If the electricity goes out, their cake production stops," said Drs Kurnia Brahmana MSi, as the Head of the Community Service Team in a written statement received by Sumut Pos, Monday (12/8/2024).
Seeing this condition, said Brahmana, the USU Faculty of Vocational Studies PKM Team took the initiative to make a cake production machine by modifying a meat grinder. The machine equipment is made with the addition of a DC motor, Speed Reducer, Pulley, Timer, Counter, cutter and conveyer. "The number of cakes is set on the counter and the size of the cake is set on the timer. Then the cutting knife will cut the dough that comes out of the machine automatically," explained Brahmana.
According to him, the power source for this cake production machine comes from a battery so that it does not depend on PLN electricity. "Hopefully, the production of cakes by the craftsmen will run smoothly every day and also affect the taste produced, because it is produced every day or fresh," he explained.
It is known that the community service which took place from May to December 2024 was chaired by Drs Kurnia Brahmana MSi with team members Awan Maghfiroh SSi MSi and Dr Kerista Tarigan MSc. They were assisted by four students. This community service activity can also be viewed on YouTube with the title "Modification of a Meat Grinder Machine into a Cake Production Machine".
