Karo, North Sumatra, On August 29-30, 2024, the community service team led by Prof. Ir. Yulianta Siregar, ST., MT, PhD Eng, IPM has successfully carried out activities to utilize solar energy through the installation of solar cells for street lighting in Lingga Village, Simpang Empat District, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. This activity aims to improve the quality of life of village communities by providing environmentally friendly and sustainable street lighting.
This community service team consists of five members who are experts in the fields of electrical engineering and renewable energy, namely:

This activity also received full support from the Head of Lingga Village, Serpis Ginting, who welcomed this initiative as a real step in increasing access to renewable energy in his area. Through the installation of this solar cell, street lights in Lingga Village can now be lit by utilizing solar energy, which not only reduces dependence on fossil fuel sources, but also reduces operational costs in the long term.

"The use of solar cell technology has really helped us in improving security and comfort in our village, especially at night," said Serpis Ginting. "We are very grateful to the community service team who have brought this technology to our village."
Prof. Ir. Yulianta Siregar stated, "We hope that this technology can continue to develop and be adopted by other villages in Indonesia, so that more people can feel the benefits of renewable energy. This is one way we contribute to a greener and more sustainable future."
This activity is part of an ongoing effort to promote renewable energy in areas that have not been fully reached by conventional electricity infrastructure. It is hoped that with this community service program, Lingga Village can be an example for other areas in utilizing renewable energy.
