Simalungun, (Analysis). The Community Service Institute (LPM) of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) conducted community service in Simalungun Regency, specifically in Huta Gondang Rejo Nagori Bandar Tongah, Bandar Huluan District. The service team, led by Hariadi Susilo, M.Si., collaborated with other USU academics to modify animal feed technology.

"We help the livestock group in the village so that their cattle fattening efforts are more optimal. Together with experts, the community service team is trying to create animal feed technology that maximizes agricultural waste," said Hariadi Susilo at the USU Campus.

He explained that the livestock feed technology development team consists of Ir. Tugiman, M.T. (mechanical expert) and Dr. Ir. Maruf Tafsin, M.P. (animal feed expert). In addition, there are also Prof. Dr. Saib Suwilo, Dr. Chairani Hanum, Dr. Dardanila, Prof. Erika Saragih, Faridah Ariani, M.T., Dr. Amlys Syahputra, Arlina, M.Hum., and Eva Sartini Bayu, M.P.

Hariadi explained that livestock groups have widely used this livestock feed technology machine. In Simalungun, the machine was redesigned to utilize other agricultural waste besides grass.

"We are still in the early stages, so we are still in the stage of making the machine. We will test the results later. But what is certain is that the machine that was created will be able to create supplements for cattle so that the cattle there are healthy and have sufficient nutrition," he said.

The future process, Hariadi added, is to create an animal feed or livestock supplement industry from upstream to downstream. "We create the machine and can immediately produce livestock supplements with nutritional content that has passed the test first. We make Huta Gondang Rejo Nagori Bandar Tongah a pilot project," he said.

Hariadi said several activities are currently being carried out, namely the preparation of livestock feed based on agricultural waste for cattle and/or fattening.

Counseling on cattle maintenance standards. Counseling and mentoring and evaluation of tool use.

The community service team has also built a cattle pen and a technology-based livestock feed processing warehouse. "We hope that this activity can benefit the surrounding community. If this is successful, the technology and created livestock feed can later be produced even more," said the lecturer in Indonesian Literature, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) USU.

Ir. Tugiman, M.T., who designed the animal feed machine technology, explained that the machine consists of five types: chopper, pellet, feed mixer, dryer, and manual press.

"We modify the machine so that it can be adjusted to the existing plant waste. It is also designed to be as economical as possible for fuel and electricity use. The point is how the farmers in the village can be made easier with this technology," he said. (be)
