Medan. The Community Service Team (TPM) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) provided oyster mushroom cultivation training to the community, especially the Lele Lawar Farmers Group in Batu Malenggang Village, Hinai District, Langkat, North Sumatra, recently. The training related to quality nurseries, making seed bags and processing oyster mushrooms into various products.
TPM USU consists of Prof. Dr. Ir. Yaya Hasanah M. Si, Prof. Dr. Ir. Elisa Julianti M. Si, Anggria Lestami SP. M. Agr assisted by 2 students, namely Nadzra Ervina Lubis and Alghi Fari.
In this activity, TPM USU trained the community to make oyster mushroom seeds independently starting from F0, F1 and F2. The team also taught how to make baglogs as a planting medium which is very important in oyster mushroom cultivation.
'' Baglog is a mixture of sawdust, lime, bran and water which is processed in such a way that it is ready to be planted with oyster mushroom seeds. "The materials must be sterilized with an autoclave to prevent contamination from germs," said Yaya Hasanah in a written statement, Tuesday (8/20/2024).
After the training, the team hopes that the community, especially the Lawar Lele Farmers Group, will be increasingly encouraged to develop their oyster mushroom cultivation business more independently and sustainably. The goal is to improve the village economy and strengthen local food security.
The Head of the Lawar Lele Farmers Group, M Ihlal Afiq, admitted that the training they received was very useful. By participating in the training, they gained a lot of knowledge.
"Previously, our knowledge of oyster mushroom cultivation was still very limited. We often had difficulty obtaining oyster mushroom seeds and making baglogs. As a result, the harvest was not optimal. However, after attending this training, we are more confident in developing this oyster mushroom business," said Ihlal.
After the training, TPM USU handed over a number of supporting tools to the Lele Lawar Farmers Group. Among others, an autoclave, simple laminar air flow, and equipment for making F0, F1 and F2 mushroom seeds such as bunsen lamps, tweezers, measuring cups, test tubes, glass bottles, spatulas, petri dishes and dextrose materials.
"The handover of this equipment marks USU's commitment to supporting oyster mushroom cultivation efforts in Batu Malenggang Village in a sustainable manner. We hope that these tools will be utilized well, so that the oyster mushroom cultivation business can develop more rapidly," said Yaya Hasanah.
TPM USU promises to continue to provide assistance and monitoring so that the Lele Lawar Farmer Group continues to develop and become an example for other farmer groups.
